Steve Kunzweiler

Steve Kunzweiler

District Attorney - District 14

Steve Kunzweiler is the elected Tulsa County District Attorney, serving since January 2015. A career prosecutor with nearly 30 years of experience, Steve is known as a tough but fair advocate for public safety and victims’ rights.

He began his career in the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office and later served as Chief of Criminal Prosecution under DA Tim Harris. As District Attorney, Steve supervises a team of 50 prosecutors who handle approximately 12,000 felony and misdemeanor cases each year. He has personally prosecuted and helped send hundreds of dangerous criminals to prison for violent offenses including murder, armed robbery, child abuse, rape, and other serious crimes.

Steve has implemented several key initiatives during his tenure, including:

  • A strict no-tolerance policy for drunk drivers who injure or kill others

  • Mandatory prison time for felons who use firearms during crimes

  • The use of therapy dogs to comfort child abuse victims and support them when testifying in court

  • Strong support for specialized courts and treatment programs (Drug Court, DUI Court, Veterans Court, Mental Health Court, and Women in Recovery) as alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders

He currently serves on the Governor’s Impaired Driving Prevention Advisory Council and is a member of the Attorney General’s Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking.

A native of the Midwest, Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri (1984) and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law (1988). He and his wife, Dr. Christine Kunzweiler, a Tulsa veterinarian, have been married for 29 years and are the proud parents of three daughters. Steve is a longtime member of Christ the King Parish in Tulsa.

Steve describes himself simply as “a prosecutor, not a politician.” His guiding principle remains the same: follow the law, the facts, and the evidence to deliver justice for the people of Tulsa County.
