The Dirty Little Secret: Dismal Primary Turnout Gives Enormous Power to the Few
Here’s the reality that should wake up every conservative:
Oklahoma primaries routinely see abysmal turnout — often only 14–20% of registered voters show up. In some recent cycles, statewide primary participation has hovered near 14%.
That means 86% of your fellow Republicans are sitting it out.
Think about what that does:
A small, motivated group of voters decides who becomes the Republican nominee for every local, state, and federal race on the ballot.
The nominee who wins the primary almost always wins the general election in deep-red Tulsa County and Oklahoma.
Your single vote in the primary is worth 5–7 times more than your vote in November.
When conservatives stay home, we end up with:
Weak or moderate nominees who don’t fight for our values
Higher taxes, bigger government, and policies that hurt working families
Missed opportunities to elect strong leaders on school choice, public safety, energy independence, and protecting life
Low turnout doesn’t just “happen.” It hands the keys to the people who do show up — and right now, that’s not enough of us.
