William (Sean) Buckner

US Senate

Sean Buckner is a U.S. Air Force veteran, successful entrepreneur, registered Cherokee citizen, and grassroots government watchdog who is running as a Republican for the United States Senate in Oklahoma.

Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, Buckner grew up primarily in the Phoenix area but maintained deep family roots in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, where both sides of his family were born and raised. His family made regular pilgrimages back to Sallisaw throughout his childhood—not as vacations, but as opportunities to stay connected to their heritage, share meals, and remember their origins. He briefly lived in Sallisaw as a child in 1982 and always felt it would one day be home again. He graduated high school in 1988 and enlisted in the United States Air Force the following year.

During his military service, Buckner worked on nuclear missile guidance systems at age 19, a role that demanded absolute precision and taught him the severe consequences of carelessness when protecting the nation. He served during Operation Desert Storm (1990–1991) and earned a top-secret clearance before honorably separating from the Air Force in 1994.

After leaving the military, Buckner entered the Arizona real estate industry with no prior experience. He quickly mastered the business, worked for the largest brokerage in the West Valley, and in July 1997 launched his own firm, Sean Buckner and Associates Real Estate, Inc. Through determination and long hours, he built the company from scratch and sold it in January 2006 in his mid-thirties, retiring on his own terms. The 2008 financial crisis later wiped out much of the wealth he had accumulated, an experience that deepened his understanding of how recklessness and corruption in boardrooms and government can devastate ordinary Americans.

Buckner eventually returned to Sallisaw, where he has lived for years while raising a family and becoming deeply involved in his community. Frustrated by local government opacity, he began attending public meetings with a camera and a copy of the Constitution. He filmed proceedings, asked tough questions that officials preferred to avoid, and stood his ground when challenged—often citing the law when told he could not record or when police were called. His efforts exposed instances of small-town corruption, closed-door decision-making, and mishandling of public funds, sparking greater demands for accountability across eastern Oklahoma.

These experiences as a citizen watchdog convinced Buckner that the deeper problems originate in Washington. He is now campaigning for U.S. Senate to bring the same no-nonsense approach to the federal level—holding government accountable with a microphone, a vote, and fidelity to the Constitution. Buckner describes himself not as a career politician, but as a veteran, former business owner, proud Cherokee, and independent fighter for transparency who accepts no PAC money and answers only to the people of Oklahoma.

His guiding principle, drawn from his grandmother’s words and his life experiences, is simple: “You watch after things. That’s what we do.”
