Senator John Haste was born in Arkansas, raised in West Tennessee, and now lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Haste is known as a proven conservative in the Oklahoma State Senate who has passed meaningful legislation to secure Oklahoma, defend families, and make life more affordable. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Prior to public service, he was a senior vice president in the home furnishings industry. In 2010, John received a pro tempore appointment to the Oklahoma State University Medical Authority and Trust, where he served as Vice Chair and later as Chair. He was serving as Chair when he resigned to take his oath of office as the Senator representing District 36 in November 2018.

Within the Oklahoma Senate, John was appointed Appropriations Vice Chair in November 2024 and also serves as Presiding Officer. He previously served as Chair of both the Aeronautics and Transportation Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation, and as Vice Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee.

John currently serves on the Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding and is Co-Chair of the Working Group for Health and Human Services. He was also appointed as a member of the Opioid Commission at the Attorney General’s Office.

Nationally, John serves as Vice-Chair of the Health Standing Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). He is also Vice Chair of NCSL’s Health Innovation Task Force and serves on NCSL’s Budget Working Group. He was recently appointed to the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee of the Council of State Governments Southern Office and serves on their Education Committee (SLC).

In addition, John serves on the executive board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Northeast Oklahoma.

John and his wife, Jennifer, are active members of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. They have one son, Nate, daughter-in-law Camille, and grand-puppy Ella.

  • Infrastructure (Roads, bridges, ports and water)

  • Addressing the tax burden including income and property tax relief

  • Health, continue addressing the health care challenges in the state including rural health care
