When it comes to history, it does not repeat itself; rather, we, as people, repeat it when we ignore it, minimize it, or fail to draw a therapeutic lesson from it.
The following are three examples:
1. North Korea, with the help of the Soviet Union, in 1950 under President Truman, entertained the idea of starting a nuclear program. This was around the time the United States began engaging in the diplomatic process through incentives, rewards, threats, sanctions, bribes, and isolation. For North Korea to halt its nuclear program/ambitions. Seven Presidents later, using the same approach, under President George Bush (2006), they achieved their nuclear test for military usage. Later on, under President Joe Biden (2017), they declared/recognized themselves as a nuclear force capable of hitting the United States (I.e., through technological advancements).
Under the first term of President Donald Trump, North Korea sent a clear message that they were going to attack Guam (a territory of the United States, west of Hawaii), specifically our military bases. This was a serious and major threat. From my understanding, President Trump sent back an even stronger message: That if this were to occur, there would no longer be a Country named North Korea. This led the dictator of North Korea, driven by blind ambition, to invite Trump to engage in negotiations.
2. In 1984, under Ronald Regan, the Ayatollah began the same intention regarding nuclear programs. Seven Presidents later, using the same approach as we have before, they were very close to having nuclear weapons for military purposes. With the intention to not only attack Israel and Europe, but eventually the United States of America.
a. Mr. President Trump and his administration had sufficient wisdom and courage to understand that repeating the same cycle/approach that we used with North Korea is ineffective and has severe consequences not just for Americans' safety and security, but also for Europe and the Middle East. This led Mr. President Trump and his administration to take a stand not to repeat history but also truly recognize what the Iranian Ayatollah Supreme Leader was: A dictator with blind ambition and disturbed mentality, having the capacity to commit genocide against his own population and anyone who stands against his worldwide ideology. Specifically, a genocide of an estimated 40-45,000 innocent people in three days, from young children to adults, men and women, boys and girls.
b. With that said, I want to thank the men and women in the military/leadership who risk their lives every day. Knowing what we could experience would be like nothing that has ever happened before.
3. One final thought in relation to us as a nation repeating history due to when we ignore it, minimize it, or don’t draw a therapeutic lesson from it: Senator McCarthy in the 1950's raised the flag and spoke up about Communist ideology infiltrating our nation and imposing serious danger to our democratic political system from within.
In the 1960s, communist ideology chose to blend with Muslim extremists in order to become a stronger force to defeat Western Ideology and way of life (extreme believers and non-believers). Now, in 2026, they have successfully infiltrated parts of our political system, specifically some of our political parties and elite universities. Feeling sad, angry, and resentful due to the defeat of the Iranian Regime. Along with having little to no sympathy for the estimated 40-45,000 innocent young children to adults, men and women, boys and girls who were killed defenselessly. In my humble opinion, Peace does not occur in the absence of War. Surgical, decisive, short-term, well-planned, and coalition-based warfare is much more productive than the traditional approach of prolonged war. With prolonged war more likely to result in high casualties, it is costly and weakens the spirit of the nation while strengthening our enemy.
America's bold vision, self-determination, and pursuing excellence is a shining light that offers hope, faith, and choosing to believe in the best possibility.
The best is yet to come, Masoud Maozami
